As a teacher and mom, I’ve always been obsessed with magnets. Ahem…see blog name. We often pick up a magnet when we travel. In my classroom, we have several magnetic walls. It’s heavenly.
As summer is winding down and my teacher to do list is growing, I was looking for a craft that met a few criteria of multi-tasking while also giving the kids a refresher following directions.
1. Occupy my 3 kids for awhile **Ages 11, 10, 8–could work independently
2. And my visiting nephew (7) and niece (5) **my older two helped them
4. For my classroom
5. For home
6. Back to School Teacher gifts! (If my kids’ teachers are reading this, act surprised when you receive them!)
I’ve always wanted to make a set of glass magnets. One search on Pinterest and you will find hundreds of styles and ideas. Here’s our version!
Did I mention they are super quick & easy?
Flat glass marbles in the floral section of your local craft store
Any paper you have around
Modge Podge & paintbrush or sponge to apply it
Hot Glue Gun
Small, flat, heavy duty circle magnets
Optional–googly eyes or accessory for the front
Here are the steps
1. Choose your paper and trace the glass
3. Cover the paper in modge podge
4. Lay the glass on top of the modge podge. Press. Let Dry.
5. Carefully add hot glue to the magnet. **Parents may need to do this step
6. Press and let dry.
7. Repeat. Become obsessed. End up going back to the store for even more supplies.
For the teacher gift part of the project, and to extend their crafting, we found these cute (cheap) $1 cardboard boxes. A little paint, Modge Podged paper, washi tape, and wa-la!
Happy Magnet Making!
