Before you Ebay or hand down some of those old costumes, if they are not being used in your playroom, save a few favorites or firsts to use as easy, cheesy, quick Halloween decoration.Ignore any and all eyerolling by spouses or cynical guests. Here’s the Pinterest version…
And, first let me show you the real deal, because I know I always appreciate the truth.
It wasn’t so perfect and beautiful underneath the hanging, cheeseball costume parade. But, we cleaned it up. Then more stuff landed there. Then we picked up again. Then more stuff. Please tell me this looks familiar to you! Even though we have a cool system for organizing, at the end of the day, it doesn’t always work that way. Can I get an amen?
And, a confession. But, don’t tell the third kid. I had handed down the original turtle suit to his cousin that very next year without hesitation to never see it again. That next year as I began decorating, I realized I had kept my daughters’ first Halloween costumes, but not his. I was a third kid and have since apologized for any guilt I have put back on my mom for any similar situations. So, I did what any good, guilty mom does. A cover-up. Thanks to Ebay and $5, I was able to score the turtle again. I have dozens of other cover-ups to tend to, mainly involving scrapbooking, but I am happy to see those first Halloweens haunting me each year. Makes me laugh…and roll my eyes.
If you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go pick up that fireplace for the 729th time this week.
