Proceed with caution…the cheese factor is high, people.
Sunflowers have been my favorite flower as far as I can remember. I had a huge framed sunflower in my first “big girl” room. Sunflowers were front and center in my wedding bouquet, will be at my memorial service someday, and appearing often in the days between.
I came across a sunflower fact the other day…The sunflower is not one flower, but a cluster of more then 2000 tiny flowers growing together.
That’s how I feel as a Mom. The kind of Mom I am is a total sum of all my relationships, experiences, and interactions with so many moms, starting with my own mom…stepmoms, mother-in-law, step-mothers-in-law, aunts, sisters, sisters-in-law, grandmothers, teachers, friends, friends’ moms, authors, moms in movies, my blogger sisters…even, and sometimes especially, strangers. I’m in awe of all of you. 2000 tiny flowers growing together. A sisterhood, if you will. I had this mental slide show flash through my mind and a wave of gratefulness came over me. Guess what the yellow petals are…protective leaves, protecting all those seeds, while it’s growing! Protective. A word all moms share in common.
The most important thing I have learned as a Mom so far in 8 years is…we don’t have all the answers and we don’t have enough time…But we do have each other.
Moms of the world, I thank you. May every day be Mother’s Day in your life! Celebrate!
PS. No diss here on amazing husbands, or all the fabulous fathers I know…I’ll write you all a poem with a stadium backdrop or bass boat or something
