March Madness Mapping with Kids

Best Fridge Art Ever

After the kids filled out their March Madness Jr Brackets (Click Here for the post with a free Printable One!) they took turns stamping where the teams were located on a USA map.

They quickly noticed the WEST didn’t show up this year, and Ohio is rocking’ with 4 teams representing! Three states have 2 teams each (North Carolina, Wisconsin, and Kentucky). In retrospect, a smaller sticker or stamp would have been a bit more precise…but  I couldn’t pass up using our basketball stamp.

This was 30 minutes of family time that was both fun, educational, and ongoing for a few weeks. Look for me in the crowd this Friday at the NC vs OH and KU vs. NC State game! 😉 I’ll wave at you!

Happy Hoops! Shelisa

  1. KC in VA says:

Yes, SOCIAL STUDIES, that is the subject for NCAA brackets! We’re homeschoolers, I try to turn life into lessons as much as possible (it’s cheaper than buying workbooks) and as I tried to come up with a creative way to dress up the fact Mommy and Daddy wanted to be plastered in front of the TV for a month all I could think of was telling myself we could use the Scientific Formula and practice how to PREDICT, my husband raising one eyebrow at me to let me know even he thought that was probably stretching it, heh. /forehead smack But of course! It’s social studies people…and geography too! It’s LEARNING time and not just parents-lazy-watching-sports-time.

I’m married to a heart broken Purdue Alum who has never recovered after Hummel’s knee injuries and so it was a tear-welling day to watch their early elimination and Robbie’s final game. /sigh

But of course the true madness of March for us is always watching Daddy drag the small TV in to sit next to the big TV and then prop up laptops all around him with screens on different games and then cuss the roof off when every screen is on commercial at the same time 🙂
